Just Hopeless

We spend half our lives trying to find “the one”. The one who we are meant to spend the rest of our lives with, who will be there for us through anything and everything. We are the same for that person, but how do we do that in a digital world? A world where it is so easy to lie about who you really are, or who you want to be. A world where it is easier to accept a negative relationship and attention than positive. Where it’s acceptable to use someone for your own personal benefit, a hedonistic perspective. Why do we as humans think it is okay to act and respond to someone’s genuine feelings in a negative way? Because social media/media says it’s okay. Glorifying ignorance. If we took out social media, who are you?                 I consider myself a hopeless romantic, I still believe in Disney fairytales and genuine men. A man who will take the time...

Finding Your Peace

In having confidence, we find that it boosts our inner morale. It keeps us motivated to date, to explore our lives as well as finding the will and want to do something greater than ourselves. It gives us hope and desire, but what happens when you take confidence away? Where does confidence internalize from and how do we create it in our minds? I feel that psychologically, we as humans, have huge egos. Each time someone strokes it, it grows. Each time we look in the mirror and say, “you are pretty”. It grows. Ego is your self-esteem and how important you are to yourself. It is the idea of self-concept, where we grab our beliefs and morals internally. Self-concept plays a lot how we see ourselves and I feel plays a deeper role in our confidence.                 Confidence is gained, I do not think you were born with it. So, I asked men and women between the ages of 18-50, what gives you confid...

Dominance

In the 13 years since, I find that I still reminisce about what could have been. Where we would be if things were different. If I was different, but especially if he was. In a social psychology class, the teacher had us learn the difference between liking and loving someone. The difference between physical attraction and interpersonal attraction. Interpersonal attraction is the concept of the strength of either liking or loving someone through experiences with them. Physical attraction is usually the first thing we recognize in someone that we may be interested in. The way their hair lays, their eye color, their smile, weight, height, etc. In only having relationships based on physical attributes, we leave ourselves susceptible to being hurt. What do I mean? When we pick someone solely based off the way they look, they may not be the person we thought they were after we get to know them. So, then what do we do when we find out that the person th...

Attention! Attention! Seek Me Out!

There are many reasons why men and women seek attention from the opposite sex. In research I have found psychological, personal and recollections from friends as to why attention is an objective. The logical response is, do we really know why attention is sought out? Maybe not, because people lie to themselves every day. To make themselves feel better, to be seen as better than others and even in some cases, pathological. It seems that social media even plays a major role in attention seeking behaviors. So, let’s discuss the issue at hand.                 In theory, everyone has some sort of attention seeking behavior. Whether it be for likes, comments and in my case, reads. There are certain personality traits that contribute to the attention seekers. Passive aggression and manipulation are key traits in someone who thrives off attention. They will ...

The Last Day

New Year’s Eve. The most celebrated holiday in the world. Why is it we wait until the final day of the year to recollect our past decisions? Why is it we wait until the final day of the year to make a “resolution” for the upcoming year? Societal cliché that making “resolutions” is an unspoken rule. But why wait? What is the purpose of waiting for the final day of the year? We can obtain small goals throughout the year and even if we do not make to the finish line, we can try again. We lie to ourselves or give ourselves false hope. False enthusiasm, which only leads to failed “resolutions”. We promise ourselves things that may not be obtainable, yet when we fail and look back and chalk in up to a bad year. 2012 bad year because I got caught by the police. 2014 bad year because I lost a job I loved, etc. What makes an ENTIRE year bad, one thing? Multiple? If that was the case what was fucking 2020, a disastrous year? An abomination? I think we are quick to project our lives overa...

Only in the Stars

Chapter 1 Our society came to Mars in 2045, when the Kleen took over Earth. The Kleen were a group of elite alien species, that came to planets and purged out the unintelligent. They turned the planet into a “super” planet. When I think of these “super” planets, I think of guys like my father. Superficial, intelligent, and driven, makes sense my father would be being part Kleen himself. Kleen look just like humans, but their only difference is they do not have belly buttons. I, Gracie Keller have lived on Mars my entire life. Mars is all I have known, even though I was born on Earth, my father and mother moved her right after I was born. My mother eventually went back to Earth after my father became commander of Mars. But that isn’t where my story starts, my story starts with Smith. I walked into first hour, which was when we go over the rules and regulations for living here on Mars. “No one should leave the permitter,” my teacher said, flipping through the thick book. “No one shou...

Is Sex the Determining Factor in a Relationship

Have we failed ourselves in relationships? Has it become easier to just have sex with someone without emotions or any form of true intimacy? A few thoughts I have ponder over the last week. It seems it is easier to cut off intimacy altogether, to prevent hurt. It is these thought processes that contribute to women I feel wanting to stay single. The pond, the sea, the swamp is filled with hopelessness. Non-romantics or try-hards but undoubtedly the laziest men and women left. It is easy for men to put blame on women and say, “She doesn’t suck dick” “Or she won’t do anal” “She never has sex with me anymore” Rather than accept a woman’s dislike to a certain sexual act. Even a lower libido is a problem that people seem to forget happens. It is easy for women to say, “His dick is too small” “He is not aggressive enough” “He never has sex with me anymore” Rather than accept that some men just aren't dominant and do not actually like treating women like discardable toys...

Barracuda

I look over my shoulder, watching you work the socket wrench under the hood of your 70’ Plymouth Barracuda. I watched you intently from my porch, swaying back and forth in my washed rocking chair. You glanced my way, setting my insides on fire. Your smile and give a short wave, making my cheeks burn red. I wave back, smiling. I put my hand over my eyebrows, blocking the sun to get a better view of the way your skin glistened from the sweat that is dripping down your body. You wipe your brow, sliding under the car. I watch your shirt reach up revealing your bear like stomach. I crossed my legs, squeezing them together. I took a sip of my lemonade, returning to my book. You were the distraction I wanted to fantasize about, not some Harlequin novelist's idea of a good fuck. I pictured you pinning me against my house and fucking me right then and there. I daydreamed about us, making love under the stars or in front of a fire. Then again, that is what Harlequin nov...

The Embodiment of Being Alone

I have had writers block for quite a while now, seemingly nothing has worked to put words to pages. At least I have my wit, right? But then I sat, and I thought, I really thought about what makes us happy. What as human beings, truly makes us happy. Not like a temporary happiness, but a fulfilling happiness. What makes us happy?             How do you know what really makes you happy? I am tremendously good at faking being happy so that I do not draw concern to others, shit even to myself sometimes. I binge watch romance movies, knowing that the shit only happens in the movies. I sit on my couch and let my head grow with ideas of love and bliss, only to come back to reality and realize how alone I really am. Then I have my “ ahah ” moment and I am like, “I am pretty good at being alone.” But how would I know what that is, if I have never really been alone? I have felt alone, damned by myself, feeling this self-pity that I am sure no one has ever felt. If ...

That's What Friends Are For

I see all the people on my friends list that I used to talk to before.  And now we don’t talk no more.  But as much as we faded away,  a piece of you has always been in my heart.  And even though we faded apart,  I keep you in my prayers,  because a piece of you has stayed.  A piece of you has made me who I am today.  Good or bad.  Happy or sad.  A piece of you has stayed,  and I would not have it any other way.  God blesses us in mysterious ways, And I’m glad that piece of you is still here to stay.  Even in the worlds we are in now, they differ from the ones of our past.  It brings me joy to see the lives you’ve created, The lives you lived, thus far, And what’s best? I know a piece of ME has decided to stay too.  Just know I’m always rooting for you.  Because even though we don’t talk no more, I’ll always remember,  “That’s what friends are for”
